Craftroom De-stash Part 1 {My Packing Party}

Oh the dreaded "D" word for every crafter out there. Unless of course you're on the buying end of someone else's de-stash  sale!

I have been having a lot of trouble with all my stuff, I know I know, poor Mari and her over abundance of craft supplies. But seriously, I just have too much stuff. So I started planning a de-stash sale, but was really overwhelmed with how to go about sorting through all of stuff and putting it up for sale.

I have been following The Minimalists on Facebook and on their blog for the past year or so. I've tried their 30 Day Minimalism challenge a few times, only to fail around day 17 every time. Then I read about the "Packing Party" The idea is basically that you pack up everything you own as if you were moving and over the next 30 days only unpack what you need when you need it. At the end, sell or donate whatever is left in those boxes.

It's extreme. With a family of 7 I could never pack up the entire house at once, I would lose my mind. But one room each 30 days doesn't sound so bad. And to set an example I decided to start with my craftroom. I think it will really help me figure out exactly what I need to keep and what I can part with.

I don't have as much time to craft as I used to, but I still have so much stuff. As my kids get older I see even less time to craft, especially since I plan on going back to work at some point in the next 3 years.

So this is not a de-stash to re-stash sale. Actually, there's a 2nd part to my madness. I won't get into details, but my family has been not as financially secure as we need to be. So, we are also embarking on a year of No Spending. Yeah, I know. It's scary and crazy. And anyone who knows me is probably thinking "I give her 3 days before she breaks". Which is the main reason I share this. Accountability. Now it's out there. You all know. I don't like to fail and my family needs this. I think it could really help turn things around for us.

For the next year we will only buy food (with a very strict budget) and consumable household items that we need (shampoo, toilet paper, dish soap, etc.). There will be two exceptions to the rules made for my family- my kids are small and they are growing like mad, so if they need new clothes I will buy them clothes, but not new, we will get them from resale stores. And Christmas. My kids will get Christmas gifts. I won't deprive them of that, I just won't go as crazy as I normally do. We will set a spending limit for gifts and that will be it.

As far as my spending money for crafts goes, usually it works that whatever I earn from selling my cards, etc. I get to use on supplies. For the next year I will only be allowed to use that money for things like glue and ink, etc. as I use up what I have here first.

So that's the plan. I plan to update on the Packing Party once a week and the no spending about once a month so you can see how it's going for us. Maybe you can join in too!

More details on my HUGE de-stash sale will be coming next month so you won't want to miss that!

Congratulations Alyce & Jon

This weekend we are celebrating a Surprise Facebook Bridal Shower for the awesome creator of Kit & Clowder, Alyce, and her fiance, Jon.

I had the pleasure of meeting them both last year when they came to Orlando, FL for a retreat. Those of us at the retreat were the first to get to hear the engagement story and see the ring since it all happened right before we met them!

They are two of the sweetest people on Earth and I am so exited for them both!

On my card I used the Wedding Couple 1  image from Scrapper's Delights. I colored the image with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers and the Clear Sparkle Pen from Spectrum Noir.

The top portion was die-cut from vellum that I then covered in gold embossing powder.

Freebie Friday Circus Sentiments

We have something a little different for Freebie Friday this time. We have this set of Circus Sentiments for you to use with ANY of the new Circus images available at Scrapper's Delights.

For my project I used the "You're the Main Attraction" sentiment and the Confectionary Stand image to make a Birthday card.

I used some Distress Inks and a stencil to create the colorful sunburst backround. I also added some Distress Ink to the sentiment banners so that they would match. I colored the image with Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers.  The sequin ribbon is from Fun Stampers Journey and is so fun! It comes in 4 different colors that are all really bright and fun,

To finish it off I added some white Nuvo Crystal Drops and the name that I had die-cut, along with lots of colorful balloons. I hope Sophia enjoys her Birthday card!

Head on over to the Scrapper's Delights Blog to see more of these fun sentiments on great projects. And be sure to enter the Progressive Challenge on Facebook so you can keep collecting free images from Scrapper's Delights!

Sending Loving Wishes

Today I have a card I made with the Felicity Stamp set from Crafter's Companion. I colored the image with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers and Sparkle Pens.

I added some Glossy Accents to the bubbles to give them more shine and dimension,

Behind the image is a piece of white cardstock that I cut with the Garden Party Die also from Crafter's Companion. I cut it twice to make a sort of circle (?) to go all the way around the image. I finished the card with some more patterned papers, lots of papers and a sentiment on a hand cut banner.

Getting Krafty With Spectrum Noir

Hello September!

I am so happy that Fall is right around the corner. Kids back to school, and soon it will be time for pumpkin everything!

But first, it's time for our new monthly challenge at Spectrum Noir. The theme this month is Kraft - we want to see Kraft paper somewhere in your projects. You can enter any project as long as it features Kraft paper and Spectrum Noir coloring mediums.

For my card I used the Going Wild stamp set by Unity Stamp Company. I fell in love with the little fox in this kit as soon as I saw him. I couldn't wait to use this stamp and I thought he would look great on some Kraft paper too!

I stamped the fox with Staz-on. I also stamped a mask piece to cover him while I stamped the feathers on the background. I stamped those in Versamark and Copper Memento ink. I used some of the Copper ink to make a paint to paint in the polka dots on the little bow tie.  I colored the rest of him with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers & a white colored pencil.

I finished the card off by matting it on some copper colored glitter cardstock and adding a sentiment I cut from the same cardstock.

Baby Blessings

I had the interesting challenge of making a gender-neutral baby card. The parents are not finding out the gender until the birth. What a great surprise for them! I could never do it though, I always had to know right away.

Instead of going with green or yellow, I decided to use both pink and blue, and I think it turned out really cute.

The image is Bebunni Baby- Bundle of Joy by Crafter's Companion. I colored it with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers.

The Show Must Go On!

I'm back with some more of the great new Circus images from Scrapper's Delights. As soon as Janice posted these ponies on the DT page I begged her to let me work with them! And she was so sweet, she let me, haha!

My girls have birthdays coming up in November, I know, a long way from now, but I like to work ahead. I knew the girls would love these pony images since they are huge fans of  My Little Pony.

I kept the cards very similar since they will have their Birthday Celebration all together, but I made each of the ponies different based on their favorite colors.

The card bases were cut on the Silhouette and the background papers are from Michael's. Earlier this year I was at a retreat and my friend Regina gave me a card. It had this paper on it and I kind of went nuts! She told me where she got it and I told her we had to go look for some. So we left the retreat, which was at a Scrapbooking store, to go to Michael's. We took 2 other friends and it was quite an adventure. But we found the paper. Regina was so funny, she grabbed the WHOLE stack of it off the shelf and was like "Here, Mari!". Like I was going to buy all of it, ha ha. I bought a few sheets, but left some for other customers too.

This first one is for Lily. I used the image Circus Pony Bethany. Lily is my girly girl, She loves pink and princess dresses. She also likes blue a lot, so I made a her a pink pony with blue accents.

Next is the one I made for Madison. I used Circus Pony Kira on this one.  Her favorite color is blue. It's been blue since she could say blue. After I colored this I realized I actually made it the colors of her favorite My Little Pony character. Total Happy accident. I love that ribbon I used on hers. It's just one of those little $.99 spools from Hobby Lobby that they have half off all the time. I love collecting those little things.

And last but not least, Sophie. She got Circus Pony Ava. Her favorite favorite color is yellow. But sometimes she really likes blue, or green, or red, or white, or black, but never pink. So I made her pony yellow with a Rainbow mane, I think she'll love it.

I am very pleased with how these turned out. All of the ponies were colored with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers.

Happy Birthday Zachary!

Last month my son turned 11. I can't believe I have a Middle Schooler now! As he is getting older it's getting harder to find images for cards for him. I was on a retreat in July and one of my friends had this really fun set of dog stamps, Katzelfraft - Les Chiens (Dogs). She also had the Tim Holtz crazy things stamp set. I just had to borrow them to make a card for Zach.

I colored everything with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers. I used dies to cut out his name and added the letters to the balloons. Then I coated the balloons in Glossy Accents. Zach has 3 dogs (2 at his dads and one here) so I tried to pick dogs that looked like his. The one on the left is Buddy, the middle one is Sprinkles and the one on the right is supposed to be Chloe.

I think I had a little too much fun making this card. He really got a kick out of it too. And of course, he was happy about the gift cards and money that he found inside of the card too!

Step Right Up! The Circus is in Town!

It's once again Freebie Friday time at Scrapper's Delights and we have a lot of fun planned for your this month. The Circus is coming to town and we are kicking things off with the Tipsy Tervy freebie.

So put on your red noses and join the fun!

I used this really fun Circus Tent cut file from Silhouette to make the card base. I like how the poodle is sticking out of the top of the tent. Even though my 4 year old told me it looked ugly that way. Ha! Such a stinker.

On the inside I have the Tipsy Tervy image ( I just love that little poodle, but she also comes without the poodle if poodles aren't really your thing, lol). I also added the Kimbo Tiger image because every circus needs tigers! Plus they're fun to color.

I came up with the sentiment after a rough day with the kiddos. Sometimes trying to balance everything is hard. Later that night when I sat down to work on the card it just sort of popped into my head.

Here's a close up of the Tipsy Tervy girl, you can really see the shimmer from the Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens here as well as the glossy accents on her lips.

And here's a closer look at the tigers I had so much fun coloring!

You can get this image for free by joining in our Progressive challenge on the Facebook Fan Page. And be sure to stop by the Scrapper's Delights Blog and Facebook page tomorrow to get a look at the rest of the Circus acts!

Happy Halloween Mini Card

Today I have a little Halloween card I made using some of the Crafter's Companion Halloween stamps and Die'sire corner dies.

I used the Trick-or-Treating Stamp set, colored with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers. (Colors listed below). I also used the Sterling Silver Sparkle Pen on some of the details of the image.

The ribbon is from my stash, I was so excited to have a use for it, those little spiders are so cute! I used the Die'sire Toulouse Corner Die to cut the background from Black Pearl Shimmer Cardstock.

Off to Kindergarten

The kids are officially back in school! Well, two of mine anyway. And 2 are getting Homeschooled and the last one is still too little for school, but I'm sure he'll take part in the Homeschooling a little bit.

This is the card I made for Landen, for Letters for Landen, He is starting Kindergarten this year so I wanted to send him a little card to wish him a happy and healthy school year.

The image is from Mo's Digital Pencil and I colored it with Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers. I cut the cute little pencil out with the Silhouette and added some googly eyes and a little bit of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen to him.
